During trading today, both the Health Care sector (XLV) and the S&P500 showed little movement.
As a proxy for the sector, the ETF tracked closer to the overall market today than over the past month. Entering today's trading, XLV was up 1.3% over the last thirty trading days. The S&P 500, in comparison, went up 4%.
Tengion (TNGN) was a major loser in the sector. Its price dropped 15.2% (-47 cents) to close at $2.63, as 34,030 shares moved. The stock traded in a range of $2.50 to $3.40.
Arena Pharmaceuticals (ARNA) was a major gainer in the sector, rising 14.1% (+$1.02) to close at $8.26 with 26.4 million shares moving. The stock traded in a range of $7.23 to $8.33.
Meridian Bioscience (VIVO) rose 7% to close at $18.31, cross its 50-day moving average of $18.31 and 200-day moving average of $18.80.
Vanguard Health Systems (QDEL) fell 4.6% to close at $8.94, moving closer to its 50-day moving average of $8.70. Also, the stock moved closer to its 200-day moving average of $16.15.
Pacira Pharmaceuticals (PCRX) hit a new 52-week high today, reaching $17.31 to top the previous high of $16.93.
