During trading today, both the Energy sector (XLE) and the S&P500 showed little movement.
As a proxy for the sector, the ETF tracked closer to the overall market today than over the past month. Entering today's trading, XLE was up 8% over the last thirty trading days while the S&P 500 climbed 3.7%.
Increasing 9.5% (+$3.37) to close at $38.87, Tesoro (TSO) was a major gainer in the sector. Today, 15.2 million shares traded hands. The stock traded in a range of $36.57 to $39.23.
Mcmoran Exploration (MMR) was a major loser in the sector. Its price dropped 6% (-84 cents) to close at $13.16, as three million shares moved. The stock traded between $13.01 and $14.05.
