Services Sector Wrap

The Services sector (IYC) held steady during a trading day that saw the S&P 500 grow 0.2%.

The ETF, as a proxy for the sector, tracked closer to the overall market today than over the past month. Entering today's trading, IYC was up 3% over the last thirty trading days while the S&P 500 climbed 5.5%.

Groupon (GRPN) was a major gainer in the sector, rising 11.9% (+79 cents) to close at $7.44 with 10.5 million shares moving. The stock traded in a range of $6.66 to $7.62. Consolidated Graphics (CGX) was another big mover, climbing $1.33 (+5.5%) to a closing price of $25.34.

Rentrak Corporation (RENT) was a major loser in the sector. Its price dropped 7.6% (-$1.43) to close at $17.35, as 23,278 shares moved. The stock traded between $17.01 and $18.62. Over the last month, the share price has dropped $2.49 (-12.6%) from $19.84 on July 12, 2012.

Zillow (Z) rose 2.7% to close at $38.83, cross its 50-day moving average of $38.64 and 200-day moving average of $35.26. Liberty Interactive (LINTA) declined 7.1% to close at $17.52, moving below its 50-day moving average of $18.18 and 200-day moving average of $17.90.

McGrath RentCorp (MGRC) rose 5.2% to close at $25.25, getting closer to its 200-day moving average or $27.82.

Directv (DTV) hit a new 52-week high today, reaching $52.11 to top the previous high of $50.68.
