The Transportation sector (IYT) held steady during a trading day that saw the S&P 500 grow 0.1%.
Although it went in the opposite direction of the market today, the ETF tracked closer to the overall market today than over the past month. Entering today's trading, IYT was down 1.3% over the last thirty trading days while the S&P 500 was up 4.8%.
Seanergy Maritime Holdings (SHIP) was a major loser in the sector. Its price dropped 11.9% (-24 cents) to close at $1.77, as 12,649 shares moved. The stock traded between $1.58 and $2.01.
Overseas Shipholding Group (OSG) was a major gainer in the sector, rising 8% (+49 cents) to close at $6.59 with 574,314 shares moving. The stock traded in a range of $5.99 to $6.62. The stock has been on a downward trajectory over the last two months, sliding $3.28 (-33.2%) from a price of $9.87 on June 12, 2012.
StealthGas (GASS) rose 3.6% to close at $5.99, crossing its 50-day moving average of $5.87. Meanwhile, Copa Holdings S.A (CPA) dropped 3.6% to close at $76.57, moving below its 200-day moving average or $76.66.
Sino-Global Shipping America (SINO) rose 4.9% to close at $2.37, approaching its 50-day moving average of $2.40. It has also moved closer to its 200-day moving average of $2.60. Celadon Group (CGI) fell 2.4% to close at $15.39, moving closer to its 50-day moving average of $15.27. Also, the stock moved closer to its 200-day moving average of $15.05.
Huntington Ingalls Industries (HII) hit a new 52-week high today, reaching $41.91 to top the previous high of $41.55.
