Utilities Sector Wrap

The Utilities sector (XLU) showed little change during trading today while the S&P 500 rose 0.2%.

The ETF, as a proxy for the sector, tracked closer to the overall market today than over the past week. Going into trading today, XLU was down 1.2% over the last seven trading days while the S&P 500 went up 0.7%.

Cadiz (CDZI) was a major loser in the sector, falling 7.5% (-70 cents) to close at $8.58 with 59,597 shares moving. The stock traded in a range of $8.52 to $9.34. Share price is up, having risen $1.65 (23.8%) from $6.93 on July 6, 2012.

Clean Energy Fuels (CLNE) was a major gainer in the sector, rising 4.8% (+67 cents) to close at $14.63 with 1.5 million shares moving. The stock traded in a range of $14.03 to $14.70. The stock has fallen over the last three months, dropping $1.72 (-10.5%) from $16.35 on May 9, 2012.

Atlas Energy (ATLS) fell 1.6% to close at $30.80, crossing its 50-day moving average of $31.04. Meanwhile, Crosstex Energy L.P (XTEX) climbed 2% to close at $16.70, moving past its 200-day moving average of $16.53.

Enersis (ENI) rose 1.7% to close at $17.65, approaching its 50-day moving average of $18.15. It has also moved closer to its 200-day moving average of $18.73. ITC Holdings (KEP) fell 1.5% to close at $72.29, moving closer to its 50-day moving average of $71.48. Also, the stock moved closer to its 200-day moving average of $10.55.

Companhia de Saneamento Basico (SBS) hit a new 52-week high today, reaching $87.15 to top the previous high of $86.05.
