ChemoCentryx (CCXI) was a major gainer in the sector, rising 15.6% (+$1.96) to close at $14.54 with 7,529 shares moving. The stock traded in a range of $13.06 to $14.78.

Exelixis (EXEL) was a major loser in the sector. Its price dropped 13.1% (-73 cents) to close at $4.85, as 7.9 million shares moved. The stock traded between $4.84 and $5.20. Shares are down $1.60 (-24.8%) from a price of $6.45 on July 30, 2012.

Viropharma (VPHM) rose 14% to close at $22.66, cross its 50-day moving average of $22.22 and 200-day moving average of $24.23. Endo Pharmaceuticals Holdings (ENDP) declined 1.2% to close at $29.78, moving below its 50-day moving average of $30.07 and 200-day moving average of $33.28.

The Cooper Companies (COO) rose 3.4% to close at $75.10, approaching its 50-day moving average of $76.97. It has also moved closer to its 200-day moving average of $78.81. Bio-Reference Laboratories (AMRN) fell 3.7% to close at $25.87, moving closer to its 50-day moving average of $25.71. Also, the stock moved closer to its 200-day moving average of $11.15.

STERIS (STE) hit a new 52-week high today, reaching $33.97 to top the previous high of $32.83.

AVEO Pharmaceuticals (AVEO) hit a new 52-week low today, hitting $8.62 to fall below the previous low of $9.26.
