During trading today, both the Transportation sector (IYT) and the S&P500 showed little movement.
As a proxy for the sector, the ETF tracked closer to the overall market today than over the past month. Entering today's trading, IYT was down 1.5% over the last thirty trading days while the S&P 500 climbed 2%.
Covenant Transportation Group (CVTI) was a major loser in the sector. Its price dropped 9.1% (-38 cents) to close at $3.80, as 63,081 shares moved. The stock traded between $3.80 and $4.20. The stock has risen 46 cents (13.8%) over the last three months from a price of $3.34 on April 27, 2012.
Canadian Pacific Railway (CP) was a significant gainer in the sector, rising 5.8%. The stock closed at $77.76 with 1.6 million shares moving. The stock traded in a range of $73.82 to $78.36. Shares have been on on the rise over the past month, climbing $6.44 (9%) from a price of $71.32 on June 25, 2012.
Tsakos Energy Navigation (TNP) declined 4.6% to close at $5.19, moving below its 50-day moving average of $5.25 and 200-day moving average of $5.96. Huntington Ingalls Industries (HII) rose 1.6% to close at $39.10, crossing its 50-day moving average of $39.01.
Diana Shipping (DSX) rose 4.2% to close at $6.71, approaching its 50-day moving average of $7.27. It has also moved closer to its 200-day moving average of $7.89. Hawaiian Holdings (HA) fell 2.5% to close at $5.88, moving down to 1.2% above its 200-day moving average of $5.81.
Grupo Aeroportuario del Sureste (ASR) hit a new 52-week high today, reaching $87.30 to top the previous high of $86.01.
CH Robinson Worldwide (CHRW) hit a new 52-week low today, hitting $50.81 to fall below the previous low of $55.35.
