The Technology sector (XLK) held steady on a trading day that saw S&P 500 drop 1%.
The ETF, as a proxy for the sector, tracked closer to the overall market today than over the past week. Going into trading today, XLK was up 0.8% over the last seven trading days while the S&P 500 went up -0.3%.
Synacor (SYNC) was a major gainer in the sector, rising 12.6% (+$1.42) to close at $12.67 with 1.5 million shares moving. The stock traded in a range of $12.06 to $13.23. Similarly, Agilysys (AGYS) gained today, increasing 45 cents (+5.5%) to close at $8.65.
Vringo (VRNG) rose 9.5% to close at $3.91, cross its 50-day moving average of $3.76 and 200-day moving average of $2.75.
Rockwell Automation (ROK) rose 1.5% to close at $65.87, approaching its 50-day moving average of $66.44. It has also moved closer to its 200-day moving average of $74.00. Eaton (ETN) rose 3.9% to close at $40.57, getting closer to its 200-day moving average or $44.67.
Ultratech (UTEK) was one of the sector's big losers, as its price dropped 8.3% (-$2.71) to close at $30.12. 495,897 shares of the stock moved. The stock traded in a range of $30.03 to $32.11. Over the last three months, the stock has lost $1.86 (-5.8%) from a price of $31.98 on April 25, 2012.
Sohu.com (SOHU) hit a new 52-week low today, hitting $33.75 to fall below the previous low of $34.92.
