Utilities Sector Wrap

During trading today, the S&P 500 dropped 0.9%, and the Utilities sector (XLU) showed little change.

EDENOR (EDN) was a significant gainer in the sector, rising 11.9%. The stock closed at $2.60 with 1,600 shares moving. The stock traded in a range of $2.37 to $2.60.

Consolidated Water (CWCO) was a major loser in the sector. Its price dropped 3.6% (-30 cents) to close at $8.09, as 96,200 shares moved. The stock traded between $8.05 and $8.29. Over the last two months, shares have shown some positive movement as the price has climbed 89 cents (12.4%) from a price of $7.20 on May 22, 2012.

National Grid plc (NGG) declined 2.2% to close at $51.39, moving below its 50-day moving average of $52.38 and 200-day moving average of $51.45. Exterran Partners L.P (EXLP) climbed 1.7% to close at $21.45, moving past its 200-day moving average of $21.37.

Centrais Eletricas Brasileiras (TRGP) fell 2% to close at $6.78, moving closer to its 50-day moving average of $6.77. Also, the stock moved closer to its 200-day moving average of $43.54.

Northwest Natural Gas (NWN) hit a new 52-week high today, reaching $49.74 to top the previous high of $49.49.
