While the S&P 500 grew 1.7%, the Energy sector (XLE) showed little movement during trading today.
Although it went in the opposite direction of the market today, the ETF tracked closer to the overall market today than over the past month. At the start of trading today, XLE was up 4.8% over the last thirty trading days while the S&P 500 was up 2.8%.
Increasing 11.2% (+$10.98) to close at $108.99, Isramco (ISRL) was a major gainer in the sector. Today, 1,988 shares traded hands. The stock traded in a range of $98.50 to $108.99. The stock has risen $17.97 (19.7%) over the last three months from a price of $91.02 on April 17, 2012.
James River Coal Company (JRCC) was one of the sector's big losers, as its price dropped 11.1% (-25 cents) to close at $2. 3.4 million shares of the stock moved. The stock traded between $1.87 and $2.30.
Rosetta Resources (ROSE) rose 4.7% to close at $38.41, crossing its 50-day moving average of $37.63. Meanwhile, Quicksilver Resources (KWK) dropped 2.3% to close at $5.05, moving below its 200-day moving average or $5.10.
TETRA Technologies (APU) fell 1.1% to close at $6.89, moving closer to its 50-day moving average of $6.78. Also, the stock moved closer to its 200-day moving average of $41.31.
Magellan Midstream Partners L.P (MMP) hit a new 52-week high today, reaching $74.80 to top the previous high of $73.74.
