The Consumer/Non-Cyclical sector (XLP) showed little change during trading today while the S&P 500 rose 1.7%.
While being down today, the ETF, as a proxy for sector performance, tracked closer to the overall market today than over the past month. Entering today's trading, XLP was up 3.7% over the last thirty trading days while the S&P 500 was down 2.8%.
PURE Bioscience (PURE) was a major loser in the sector, falling 8.6% (-3 cents) to close at 35 cents with 188,980 shares moving. The stock traded in a range of 35 cents to 42 cents. Shares are down, having dropped 9 cents (-20.5%) from a price of 44 cents on July 6, 2012.
Increasing 5.5% (+86 cents) to close at $16.57, Nature's Sunshine Prod (NATR) was a major gainer in the sector. Today, 38,774 shares traded hands. The stock traded in a range of $15.60 to $16.67. The stock has been on an upward trajectory over the last two months, increasing $2.79 (20.2%) from a price of $13.78 on May 15, 2012.
USANA Health (USNA) rose 2.5% to close at $40.99, cross its 50-day moving average of $40.22 and 200-day moving average of $37.43. SkyPeople Fruit Juice (SPU) declined 1.3% to close at $1.58, moving below its 50-day moving average of $1.56 and 200-day moving average of $1.65.
Estee Lauder Cos (EL) rose 2.1% to close at $51.63, approaching its 50-day moving average of $54.38. It has also moved closer to its 200-day moving average of $61.05. Cott Corporation (CHSCP) fell 2.5% to close at $8.18, moving closer to its 50-day moving average of $7.99. Also, the stock moved closer to its 200-day moving average of $29.93.
Lancaster Colony (LANC) hit a new 52-week high today, reaching $72.72 to top the previous high of $72.42.
Green Mountain Coffee Roasters (GMCR) hit a new 52-week low today, hitting $19.17 to fall below the previous low of $19.45.
