During trading today, both the Capital Goods sector (XLI) and the S&P500 showed little movement.
As a proxy for the sector, the ETF tracked closer to the overall market today than over the past month. Entering today's trading, XLI was unchanged over the last thirty trading days. The S&P 500, in comparison, went up 2.1%.
Spirit AeroSystems Holdings (SPR) fell 3.9% to close at $22.47, crossing its 50-day moving average of $23.22. Meanwhile, Ocean Power Technologies (OPTT) climbed 72.2% to close at $3.55, moving past its 200-day moving average of $2.67.
The Middleby Corporation (MIDD) rose 1.4% to close at $96.55, approaching its 50-day moving average of $98.36. It has also moved closer to its 200-day moving average of $97.39. Sodastream International (TITN) fell 3.3% to close at $36.94, moving closer to its 50-day moving average of $36.63. Also, the stock moved closer to its 200-day moving average of $28.21.
Arts-Way Manufacturing (ARTW) was a major gainer in the sector, rising 13.2% (+99 cents) to close at $8.49 with 70,831 shares moving. The stock traded in a range of $7.50 to $8.80. Argan (AGX) also gained today, climbing 86 cents (+6.1%) to close at $14.89.
Embraer (ERJ) was a major loser in the sector, falling 7.5% (-$1.87) to close at $23.06 with 3.6 million shares moving. The stock traded in a range of $22.93 to $24.75. The stock has lost momentum over the last three months, losing $11.57 (-33.4%) from $34.63 on April 13, 2012.
Joy Global (JOY) hit a new 52-week low today, hitting $48.87 to fall below the previous low of $50.06.
