Basic Materials Sector Wrap

During trading today, both the Basic Materials sector (XLB) and the S&P500 showed little movement.

Ball (BLL) rose 0.7% to close at $40.78, cross its 50-day moving average of $40.74 and 200-day moving average of $39.95. Graphic Packaging Holding Company (GPK) declined 88.8% to close at $5.39, moving below its 50-day moving average of $6.88 and 200-day moving average of $5.54.

Revett Minerals Inc ADR (RVM) rose 2.7% to close at $3.42, approaching its 50-day moving average of $3.42. It has also moved closer to its 200-day moving average of $3.99. A. Schulman (SHLM) rose 8.7% to close at $21.99, getting closer to its 200-day moving average or $22.75.

Increasing 11.3% (+39 cents) to close at $3.84, Tufco Technologies (TFCO) was a major gainer in the sector. Today, 1,016 shares traded hands. The stock traded in a range of $3.45 to $3.84.

Sun Hydraulics Corporation (SNHY) was one of the sector's big losers, as its price dropped 5.9% (-$1.43) to close at $22.89. 64,989 shares of the stock moved. The stock traded between $22.89 and $24.61. Shares are down over the last two months as the price has dropped $3.39 (-12.9%) from a price of $26.28 on May 10, 2012.

American Vanguard (AVD) hit a new 52-week high today, reaching $28.76 to top the previous high of $28.48.
