While the S&P 500 grew 0.3%, the Capital Goods sector (XLI) showed little movement during trading today.

Meanwhile, Esterline Technologies Corporation (ESL) climbed 2.7% to close at $64.05, moving past its 200-day moving average of $63.56.

MasTec (MTZ) rose 3.7% to close at $15.60, approaching its 50-day moving average of $15.75. It has also moved closer to its 200-day moving average of $16.98. Manitowoc Company (BA) fell 4% to close at $11.23, moving closer to its 50-day moving average of $10.94. Also, the stock moved closer to its 200-day moving average of $72.66.

 

Pike Electric Corporation (PIKE) was a significant gainer in the sector, rising 7.6%. The stock closed at $8.31 with 86,040 shares moving. The stock traded in a range of $7.72 to $8.31. Share price is up $1.21 (17%) from $7.10 on June 1, 2012.

 

Trinity Industries (TRN) was a major loser in the sector, falling 5% (-$1.25) to close at $23.73 with 893,603 shares moving. The stock traded between $23.67 and $25.15. The stock is down over the last three months, having fallen $9.39 (-28.4%) from $33.12 on April 4, 2012.

 

USG Corporation (USG) hit a new 52-week high today, reaching $19.96 to top the previous high of $19.44.
