The Transportation sector (IYT) showed little movement while the S&P 500 gained 0.9% during trading today.
Although it moved in the opposite direction of the market, the ETF tracked closer to the overall market today than it has over the past week. Going into trading today, IYT was down 3.8% over the last seven trading days. The S&P 500, in comparison, was down 1.7%.
Paragon Shipping (PRGN) was one of the sector's big losers, as its price dropped 6.6% (-4 cents) to close at 55 cents. 65,239 shares of the stock moved. The stock traded in a range of 53 cents to 57 cents. Over the last three months, the stock has lost 27 cents (-32.9%) from a price of 82 cents on March 30, 2012.
The Greenbrier Companies (GBX) was a major gainer in the sector, rising 6.6% (+99 cents) to close at $16.06 with 641,043 shares moving. The stock traded in a range of $15.14 to $16.15. The stock has fallen over the last three months, dropping $3.73 (-18.8%) from $19.79 on March 30, 2012.
Hornbeck Offshore Services (HOS) rose 6.2% to close at $35.76, cross its 50-day moving average of $34.83 and 200-day moving average of $36.63. Frozen Food Express Industries (FFEX) declined 6.5% to close at $1.23, moving below its 50-day moving average of $1.25 and 200-day moving average of $1.28.
Overseas Shipholding Group (OSG) rose 3.4% to close at $10.39, approaching its 50-day moving average of $10.40. It has also moved closer to its 200-day moving average of $10.96.
