The Consumer/Non-Cyclical sector (XLP) held steady during a trading day that saw the S&P 500 grow 0.9%.
Omega Protein Corporation (OME) was a major gainer in the sector, rising 7.3% (+51 cents) to close at $7.48 with 148,380 shares moving. The stock traded in a range of $6.96 to $7.53. Shares are up, having risen 93 cents (14.2%) from a price of $6.55 on June 20, 2012. Annies (BNNY) also gained today, climbing $2.47 (+6.7%) to close at $39.39.
Bridgford Foods Corporation (BRID) was a major loser in the sector. Its price dropped 4.9% (-40 cents) to close at $7.75, as 5,391 shares moved. The stock traded in a range of $7.31 to $8.10.
Adecoagro (AGRO) declined 3.5% to close at $9.07, moving below its 50-day moving average of $9.31 and 200-day moving average of $9.26. The Hain Celestial Group (HAIN) rose 3.4% to close at $53.02, crossing its 50-day moving average of $52.95.
Fresh Del Monte Produce (FDP) rose 2.2% to close at $22.82, approaching its 50-day moving average of $23.46. It has also moved closer to its 200-day moving average of $23.70. Tejon Ranch Company (TRC) rose 2.9% to close at $27.34, getting closer to its 200-day moving average or $27.56.
John B. Sanfilippo & Son (JBSS) hit a new 52-week high today, reaching $16.48 to top the previous high of $16.11.
