The Financial sector (XLF) held steady during a trading day that saw the S&P 500 grow 0.5%.
Although it went in the opposite direction of the market today, the ETF tracked closer to the overall market today than over the past month. Entering today's trading, XLF was up 0.6% over the last thirty trading days while the S&P 500 was down 0.1%.
Harbinger Group (HRG) was a major loser in the sector. Its price dropped 13% (-$1.04) to close at $6.93, as 1.4 million shares moved. The stock traded in a range of $6.33 to $8.10.
TIB Financial (TIBB) was a major gainer in the sector, rising 12.5% (+$1.32) to close at $11.92 with 3,600 shares moving. The stock traded in a range of $10.55 to $12.11.
China Life Insurance Company (LFC) rose 3.8% to close at $37.03, cross its 50-day moving average of $36.50 and 200-day moving average of $39.22. Moneygram International (MGI) declined 3.3% to close at $14.60, moving below its 50-day moving average of $14.63 and 200-day moving average of $16.66.
Cross Timbers Royalty (CRT) rose 2.9% to close at $35, approaching its 50-day moving average of $36.27. It has also moved closer to its 200-day moving average of $42.08. BofI (BAP) fell 2.5% to close at $18.88, moving closer to its 50-day moving average of $18.57. Also, the stock moved closer to its 200-day moving average of $120.86.
C&F Financial Corporation (CFFI) hit a new 52-week high today, reaching $39.93 to top the previous high of $39.
U.S. Global Investors (GROW) hit a new 52-week low today, hitting $4.28 to fall below the previous low of $4.32.
