Consumer/Non-Cyclical Sector Wrap

While the S&P 500 grew 0.5%, the Consumer/Non-Cyclical sector (XLP) showed little movement during trading today.

Central Garden & Pet (CENT) was a major gainer in the sector, rising 8.3% (+75 cents) to close at $9.82 with 223,965 shares moving. The stock traded in a range of $9.15 to $9.83. The stock has been on a downward trajectory over the last two months, slipping 93 cents (-8.7%) from a price of $10.75 on April 27, 2012.

Sanderson Farms (SAFM) was a major loser in the sector. Its price dropped 6.3% (-$3.14) to close at $47.01, as 595,407 shares moved. The stock traded between $46.51 and $50.20. The stock has been losing steam over the last month, decreasing $7.30 (-13.4%) from a price of $54.31 on May 25, 2012.

Kraft Foods (KFT) declined 2.2% to close at $37.76, moving below its 50-day moving average of $38.60 and 200-day moving average of $37.98. Nu Skin (NUS) rose 4.5% to close at $44.98, crossing its 50-day moving average of $44.00.

Bunge (BG) rose 1.1% to close at $59.50, approaching its 50-day moving average of $60.41. It has also moved closer to its 200-day moving average of $62.58. Adecoagro (AGRO) fell 1.3% to close at $9.40, moving closer to its 50-day moving average of $9.30. Also, the stock moved closer to its 200-day moving average of $9.26.

Fomento Economico Mexicano SAB (FMX) hit a new 52-week high today, reaching $88.71 to top the previous high of $85.62.

Diamond Foods (DMND) hit a new 52-week low today, hitting $17.77 to fall below the previous low of $17.95.
