The Basic Materials sector (XLB) showed little change during trading today while the S&P 500 rose 0.5%.
The ETF, as a proxy for the sector, tracked closer to the overall market today than over the past week. Going into trading today, the S&P 500 was up -2.7% over the last seven trading days, but XLB was down 4.2%.
GSE Holdings (GSE) was a significant gainer in the sector, rising 8.4%. The stock closed at $10.40 with 34,275 shares moving. The stock traded in a range of $9.59 to $10.41.
HB Fuller (FUL) rose 8.1% to close at $31.06, crossing its 50-day moving average of $30.73. Meanwhile, Dow Chemical (DOW) dropped 2.9% to close at $31.32, moving below its 200-day moving average or $32.04.
LSB Industries (LXU) rose 4% to close at $28.10, approaching its 50-day moving average of $28.48. It has also moved closer to its 200-day moving average of $33.11. Agnico-Eagle Mines (BLL) fell 3.7% to close at $40.48, moving closer to its 50-day moving average of $39.51. Also, the stock moved closer to its 200-day moving average of $39.72.
Richmont Mines (RIC) was a major loser in the sector. Its price dropped 6.4% (-33 cents) to close at $4.85, as 261,831 shares moved. The stock traded between $4.80 and $5.15.
AEP Industries (AEPI) hit a new 52-week high today, reaching $40.20 to top the previous high of $39.97.
