Technology Sector Wrap

During trading today, the Technology sector (XLK) showed little change while the S&P 500 fell 1.6%.

MakeMusic (MMUS) was a major gainer in the sector, rising 14.5% (+51 cents) to close at $4.03 with 1,300 shares moving. The stock traded in a range of $3.60 to $4.03. Similarly, Astro-Med (ALOT) gained today, increasing 40 cents (+5.2%) to close at $8.10.

Veeco Instruments (VECO) was a major loser in the sector, falling 11.4% (-$3.87) to close at $30.20 with 1.7 million shares moving. The stock traded between $29.77 and $33.51. Shares are down $3.06 (-9.2%) from a price of $33.26 on June 18, 2012.

Broadcom (BRCM) declined 6.1% to close at $32.30, moving below its 50-day moving average of $33.60 and 200-day moving average of $34.65.

Xyratex (XRTX) rose 4% to close at $11.42, approaching its 50-day moving average of $11.89. It has also moved closer to its 200-day moving average of $14.18. Servicesource International (SREV) rose 3.9% to close at $13.42, getting closer to its 200-day moving average or $14.61.

Quest Software (QSFT) hit a new 52-week high today, reaching $27.75 to top the previous high of $26.85.

Acme Packet (APKT) hit a new 52-week low today, hitting $18.96 to fall below the previous low of $20.04.
