The Financial sector (XLF) held steady on a trading day that saw S&P 500 drop 1.6%.

The ETF, as a proxy for the sector, tracked closer to the overall market today than over the past week. Going into trading today, the S&P 500 was up -2.3% over the last seven trading days, but XLF was down 1.6%.

Direxion Daily China Bear 3x Shares ETF (YANG) was a major gainer in the sector, rising 10.5% (+$1.65) to close at $17.43 with 68,867 shares moving. The stock traded in a range of $16.80 to $17.74. Similarly, Colony Bankcorp (CBAN) gained today, increasing 41 cents (+8%) to close at $5.52.

Cushing Royalty \x26 Income Fund (SRF) was a major loser in the sector. Its price dropped 7.5% (-$1.69) to close at $20.81, as 53,240 shares moved. The stock traded between $20.80 and $22.33.

Green Dot Corporation (GDOT) rose 2.8% to close at $22.29, cross its 50-day moving average of $21.92 and 200-day moving average of $26.76. Shinhan Financial Group (SHG) declined 2.8% to close at $65.89, moving below its 50-day moving average of $67.74 and 200-day moving average of $72.57.

iShares Silver Trust (ETF (SLV) rose 2.1% to close at $26.71, approaching its 50-day moving average of $27.79. It has also moved closer to its 200-day moving average of $30.12. Visa (ESGR) fell 2.9% to close at $121.27, moving closer to its 50-day moving average of $118.08. Also, the stock moved closer to its 200-day moving average of $96.38.

Harbinger Group (HRG) hit a new 52-week high today, reaching $8.33 to top the previous high of $7.71.
