While the S&P 500 grew 0.2%, the Financial sector (XLF) showed little movement during trading today.
Although it went in the opposite direction of the market today, the ETF tracked farther from the overall market today than over the past week. Going into trading today, XLF was up 2.7% over the last seven trading days while the S&P 500 was up 2.3%.
Increasing 7.6% (+$6.11) to close at $86.21, Great Northern Iron Ore Properties (GNI) was a major gainer in the sector. Today, 61,849 shares traded hands. The stock traded in a range of $80.31 to $86.60.
Hawthorn (HWBK) was a major loser in the sector. Its price dropped 7.3% (-73 cents) to close at $9.24, as 7,698 shares moved. The stock traded between $9.19 and $9.36.
Lazard (LAZ) rose 5% to close at $24.25, cross its 50-day moving average of $23.96 and 200-day moving average of $26.31. Hudson Valley (HVB) declined 3.9% to close at $16.98, moving below its 50-day moving average of $17.05 and 200-day moving average of $17.83.
BancFirst Corporation (BKYF) fell 2.1% to close at $39.42, moving closer to its 50-day moving average of $39.36. Also, the stock moved closer to its 200-day moving average of $23.79. Green Dot Corporation (GDOT) rose 5.6% to close at $21.35, approaching its 50-day moving average of $22.29. It has also moved closer to its 200-day moving average of $27.14.
Altisource Portfolio Solutions S.A (ASPS) hit a new 52-week high today, reaching $70.47 to top the previous high of $67.56.
