Cabot Oil & Gas Corporation (COG) was a significant gainer in the sector, rising 8.6%. The stock closed at $35.04 with seven million shares moving. The stock traded in a range of $32.03 to $35.48. The stock has been on an upward trajectory over the last two months, increasing $4.47 (14.6%) from a price of $30.57 on April 17, 2012.

AmeriGas Partners L.P (APU) declined 1.2% to close at $40.05, moving below its 50-day moving average of $39.23 and 200-day moving average of $41.66. EQT Corporation (EQT) rose 4.1% to close at $47.50, crossing its 50-day moving average of $46.87.

Ultra Petroleum (UPL) rose 6% to close at $18.96, approaching its 50-day moving average of $18.99. It has also moved closer to its 200-day moving average of $23.57. Plains All American Pipeline L.P (PAA) fell 0.3% to close at $77.33, moving down to 1% above its 200-day moving average of $76.55.

QR Energy (QRE) was a major loser in the sector, falling 2.8% (-49 cents) to close at $17.20 with 304,907 shares moving. The stock traded between $17.13 and $17.88. Over the last three months, the stock has lost $6.12 (-26.2%) from a price of $23.32 on March 19, 2012.

IHS (IHS) hit a new 52-week high today, reaching $103.96 to top the previous high of $103.25.

Petroleo Brasileiro (PBR) hit a new 52-week low today, hitting $18.18 to fall below the previous low of $18.52.
