Utilities Sector Wrap

During trading today, both the Utilities sector (XLU) and the S&P500 showed little movement.

While being down today, the ETF, as a proxy for sector performance, tracked closer to the overall market today than over the past month. Entering today's trading, XLU was up 0.9% over the last thirty trading days while the S&P 500 was down 8%.

EDENOR (EDN) was a major loser in the sector, falling 13.3% (-30 cents) to close at $1.96 with 21,693 shares moving. The stock traded between $1.95 and $2.22.

Delta Natural Gas Company (DGAS) was a significant gainer in the sector, rising 7%. The stock closed at $20.70 with 6,771 shares moving. The stock traded in a range of $18.90 to $20.73.

Connecticut Water Service (CTWS) rose 4.9% to close at $28.68, cross its 50-day moving average of $27.59 and 200-day moving average of $28.12.

CPFL Energia (CPL) rose 2.1% to close at $24.10, approaching its 50-day moving average of $26.35. It has also moved closer to its 200-day moving average of $28.24. Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEP) rose 3.2% to close at $9.77, getting closer to its 200-day moving average or $10.43.

Aqua America (WTR) hit a new 52-week high today, reaching $23.56 to top the previous high of $23.32.
