Ciena Corporation (CIEN) was a major gainer in the sector, rising 14.1% (+$1.67) to close at $13.55 with 21 million shares moving. The stock traded in a range of $12.45 to $13.67. The stock has been falling in the last two months, down $2.82 (-17.2%) from a price of $16.37 on April 2, 2012. BroadSoft (BSFT) also gained today, climbing $1.62 (+6.3%) to close at $27.31.

CGI Group (GIB) rose 13.7% to close at $23.21, cross its 50-day moving average of $21.18 and 200-day moving average of $20.44.

OmniVision Technologies (OVTI) rose 6.4% to close at $16.18, approaching its 50-day moving average of $17.15. It has also moved closer to its 200-day moving average of $16.22. Apple (WCC) fell 0.2% to close at $577.73, moving closer to its 50-day moving average of $576.55. Also, the stock moved closer to its 200-day moving average of $59.49.

First Solar (FSLR) was a major loser in the sector, falling 6.3% (-84 cents) to close at $12.56 with 8.7 million shares moving. The stock traded between $12.19 and $13.40.

Synacor (SYNC) hit a new 52-week high today, reaching $15 to top the previous high of $13.92.
