The Transportation sector (IYT) showed little change during trading today while the S&P 500 rose 1.2%.
While being down today, the ETF, as a proxy for sector performance, tracked closer to the overall market today than over the past month. Entering today's trading, IYT was down 1.7% over the last thirty trading days while the S&P 500 was down 4.8%.
Seanergy Maritime Holdings (SHIP) was a major loser in the sector. Its price dropped 14.4% (-39 cents) to close at $2.31, as 24,384 shares moved. The stock traded between $2.20 and $2.71.
China Eastern Airlines (CEA) was a major gainer in the sector, rising 6.9% (+99 cents) to close at $15.44 with 43,021 shares moving. The stock traded in a range of $15.01 to $15.48. The stock is down over the last three months, having fallen $3.93 (-20.3%) from $19.37 on March 1, 2012.
China Southern Airlines (ZNH) rose 6% to close at $22.36, cross its 50-day moving average of $21.99 and 200-day moving average of $24.54. Diana Shipping (DSX) declined 1.8% to close at $8.10, moving below its 50-day moving average of $7.83 and 200-day moving average of $8.20.
Box Ships (TEU) rose 6.4% to close at $7.84, approaching its 50-day moving average of $8.34. It has also moved closer to its 200-day moving average of $8.79.
J.B. Hunt Transport Services (JBHT) hit a new 52-week high today, reaching $57.92 to top the previous high of $57.43.
