Utilities Sector Wrap

The Utilities sector (XLU) showed little movement while the S&P 500 gained 0.1% during trading today.

Increasing 10.6% (+23 cents) to close at $2.40, EDENOR (EDN) was a major gainer in the sector. Today, 4,470 shares traded hands. The stock traded in a range of $2.17 to $2.41.

Calpine Corporation (CPN) was a major loser in the sector. Its price dropped 3.1% (-54 cents) to close at $16.85, as 7.7 million shares moved. The stock traded in a range of $16.70 to $16.95. Over the last three months, the stock has gained $1.20 (7.7%) from a price of $15.65 on February 27, 2012.

Consolidated Water (CWCO) rose 1% to close at $7.27, crossing its 50-day moving average of $7.25. Meanwhile, Chesapeake Utilities Corporation (CPK) dropped 2.2% to close at $41.61, moving below its 200-day moving average or $41.85.

FirstEnergy (ATO) fell 2% to close at $46.76, moving closer to its 50-day moving average of $46.66. Also, the stock moved closer to its 200-day moving average of $32.26.

National Fuel Gas (NFG) hit a new 52-week low today, hitting $42.25 to fall below the previous low of $42.52.
