While the S&P 500 grew 0.2%, the Utilities sector (XLU) showed little movement during trading today.
Although it went in the opposite direction of the market today, the ETF tracked closer to the overall market today than over the past month. Entering today's trading, XLU was up 2.4% over the last thirty trading days while the S&P 500 was down 3.4%.
Increasing 7.5% (+86 cents) to close at $12.29, Niska Gas Storage Partners (NKA) was a major gainer in the sector. Today, 556,382 shares traded hands. The stock traded in a range of $11.50 to $12.65. Shares are up over the last two months, having risen $2.98 (32%) from a price of $9.31 on March 23, 2012.
