The Transportation sector (IYT) showed little movement while the S&P 500 gained 0.2% during trading today.
Despite being down today, the ETF, as a as a proxy for sector performance, tracked closer to the overall market than over the past week. Going into trading today, IYT was down 1.8% over the last seven trading days while the S&P 500 was down 0.9%.
Gol Linhas Aereas Inteligentes (GOL) was one of the sector's big losers, as its price dropped 8.4% (-41 cents) to close at $4.49. 2.2 million shares of the stock moved. The stock traded between $4.47 and $4.80.
Seanergy Maritime Holdings (SHIP) was a significant gainer in the sector, rising 5.5%. The stock closed at $2.76 with 1,200 shares moving. The stock traded in a range of $2.64 to $2.76.
RailAmerica (RA) rose 2.7% to close at $22.13, crossing its 50-day moving average of $21.74.
American Railcar Industries (ARII) rose 3.9% to close at $22.03, approaching its 50-day moving average of $23.95. It has also moved closer to its 200-day moving average of $24.67. Copa Holdings S.A (ECHO) fell 0.7% to close at $82.70, moving closer to its 50-day moving average of $81.15. Also, the stock moved closer to its 200-day moving average of $16.70.
