Energy Sector Wrap

During trading today, the Energy sector (XLE) showed little change while the S&P 500 fell 0.6%.

Although it went in the opposite direction of the market today, the ETF tracked closer to the overall market today than over the past month. Entering today's trading, XLE was down 4.6% over the last thirty trading days while the S&P 500 was down 2.7%.

C&J Energy Services (CJES) was a major loser in the sector, falling 7.8% (-$1.47) to close at $17.41 with 971,887 shares moving. The stock traded in a range of $17.40 to $19.02.

Pyramid Oil Company (PDO) was a major gainer in the sector, rising 5.8% (+26 cents) to close at $4.76 with 142,827 shares moving. The stock traded in a range of $4.35 to $5. Shares have been on an upward trajectory over the past month, rising 60 cents (14.4%) from a price of $4.16 on April 16, 2012.

IHS (IHS) rose 1.3% to close at $97.56, crossing its 50-day moving average of $97.26. Meanwhile, EQT Corporation (EQT) dropped 4.7% to close at $46.47, moving below its 200-day moving average or $52.50.

InterOil Corporation (IOC) rose 2% to close at $54.79, approaching its 50-day moving average of $56.18. It has also moved closer to its 200-day moving average of $57.04. Range Resources (RRC) fell 2.9% to close at $64.12, moving down to 2.7% above its 200-day moving average of $62.38.

Peabody Energy (BTU) hit a new 52-week low today, hitting $26.02 to fall below the previous low of $27.11.
