The Consumer/Non-Cyclical sector (XLP) showed little movement on a trading day that saw S&P 500 fall 0.6%.
Although it went in the opposite direction of the market today, the ETF tracked closer to the overall market today than over the past month. Entering today's trading, XLP was up 0.3% over the last thirty trading days while the S&P 500 was down 2.7%.
Lifeway Foods (LWAY) was a major gainer in the sector, rising 11.2% (+95 cents) to close at $9.40 with 48,382 shares moving. The stock traded in a range of $8.45 to $9.44. Shares price has risen $1 (11.9%) from $8.40 on May 8, 2012.
Avon Products (AVP) was a major loser in the sector, falling 10.7% (-$2.25) to close at $18.71 with 36.1 million shares moving. The stock traded in a range of $18.10 to $21.85. The share price has dropped $4.32 (-18.8%) from $23.03 on April 16, 2012.
Alico (ALCO) rose 4.9% to close at $23.46, cross its 50-day moving average of $22.97 and 200-day moving average of $22.08. Seaboard Corporation (SEB) declined 1.2% to close at $1915, moving below its 50-day moving average of $1931.21 and 200-day moving average of $1968.92.
Central European Distribution (CEDC) rose 4.8% to close at $4.58, approaching its 50-day moving average of $4.68. It has also moved closer to its 200-day moving average of $4.88.
Dean Foods (DF) hit a new 52-week high today, reaching $14.88 to top the previous high of $14.70.
Cresud S.A.C.I.F. y A. (CRESY) hit a new 52-week low today, hitting $8.17 to fall below the previous low of $8.53.
