During trading today, both the Utilities sector (XLU) and the S&P500 showed little movement.
As a proxy for the sector, the ETF tracked closer to the overall market today than over the past month. Entering today's trading, XLU was up 4.5% over the last thirty trading days. The S&P 500, in comparison, went up -2.2%.
Cheniere Energy (LNG) was a major loser in the sector. Its price dropped 6.6% (-$1.15) to close at $16.25, as seven million shares moved. The stock traded in a range of $15.97 to $17.22. Shares have been on on the rise over the past three months, climbing 61 cents (3.6%) from a price of $16.86 on April 13, 2012.
Ormat Technologies (ORA) was a major gainer in the sector, rising 3.2% (+68 cents) to close at $22 with 262,850 shares moving. The stock traded in a range of $21.20 to $22.24. Share price is up $3.97 (22%) from $18.03 on April 13, 2012.
Energy Transfer Partners (ETP) declined 2.8% to close at $46.16, moving below its 50-day moving average of $47.40 and 200-day moving average of $46.46.
Unitil Corporation (UTL) rose 1.1% to close at $25.20, approaching its 50-day moving average of $26.58. It has also moved closer to its 200-day moving average of $26.93. Oneok (EOC) fell 2.1% to close at $84.61, moving closer to its 50-day moving average of $83.59. Also, the stock moved closer to its 200-day moving average of $50.09.
