During trading today, the Energy sector (XLE) showed little change while the S&P 500 fell 1.1%.
The ETF, as a proxy for the sector, tracked closer to the overall market today than over the past month. As trading began today, XLE was down 3.6% over the last thirty trading days, and the S&P 500 climbed -2.2%.
Apco Oil & Gas International (APAGF) was one of the sector's big losers, as its price dropped 11.1% (-$3.12) to close at $25.01. 63,281 shares of the stock moved. The stock traded between $24.75 and $27.69.
InterOil Corporation (IOC) declined 6.7% to close at $53.73, moving below its 50-day moving average of $56.29 and 200-day moving average of $57.06. Star Gas Partners L.P (SGU) rose 1.3% to close at $4, crossing its 50-day moving average of $3.97.
Concho Resources (CXO) rose 3.2% to close at $92.02, approaching its 50-day moving average of $99.09. It has also moved closer to its 200-day moving average of $99.37.
Natural Gas Services Group (NGS) was a major gainer in the sector, rising 5.3% (+72 cents) to close at $14.39 with 155,114 shares moving. The stock traded in a range of $13.57 to $14.48. Share price has been rising, and is up $2.36 (19.6%) from a price of $12.03 on May 7, 2012.
