During trading today, both the Utilities sector (XLU) and the S&P500 showed little movement.
While being down today, the ETF, as a proxy for sector performance, tracked closer to the overall market today than over the past month. Entering today's trading, XLU was up 4.3% over the last thirty trading days while the S&P 500 was down 2.3%.
Energy Transfer Partners (ETP) rose 0.8% to close at $47.47, cross its 50-day moving average of $47.38 and 200-day moving average of $46.44.
Exterran Partners L.P (EXLP) rose 2.1% to close at $21.22, approaching its 50-day moving average of $21.81. It has also moved closer to its 200-day moving average of $22.39.
Chesapeake Midstream Partners L.P (CHKM) was a major loser in the sector. Its price dropped 6.2% (-$1.58) to close at $23.72, as 1.3 million shares moved. The stock traded between $23.10 and $25.27. The share price has been sinking in the last month, down $5.87 (-19.8%) from $29.59 on April 12, 2012.
Delta Natural Gas Company (DGAS) was a major gainer in the sector, rising 4.3% (+91 cents) to close at $21.99 with 4,452 shares moving. The stock traded in a range of $21.27 to $22.09.
