Consumer/Non-Cyclical Sector Wrap

The Consumer/Non-Cyclical sector (XLP) showed little movement while the S&P 500 gained 0.1% during trading today.

Although it went in the opposite direction of the market today, the ETF tracked closer to the overall market today than over the past month. At the start of trading today, XLP was up 0.2% over the last thirty trading days while the S&P 500 was down 1.9%.

Cresud S.A.C.I.F. y A. (CRESY) was a major loser in the sector, falling 5.8% (-54 cents) to close at $8.76 with 1.9 million shares moving. The stock traded in a range of $8.53 to $9.22. The stock is down over the last three months, having fallen $4.53 (-34.1%) from $13.29 on February 8, 2012.

Diamond Foods (DMND) was a major gainer in the sector, rising 5.1% (+$1.09) to close at $22.27 with 682,368 shares moving. The stock traded in a range of $20.90 to $22.32.

Tyson Foods (TSN) rose 3.3% to close at $18.63, cross its 50-day moving average of $18.57 and 200-day moving average of $19.01. Deluxe Corporation (DLX) declined 2.1% to close at $22.98, moving below its 50-day moving average of $23.21 and 200-day moving average of $23.25.

Seneca Foods (SENEA) rose 2.4% to close at $22.90, approaching its 50-day moving average of $24.32. It has also moved closer to its 200-day moving average of $24.41. Calavo Growers (TRC) fell 1.5% to close at $27.80, moving closer to its 50-day moving average of $27.34. Also, the stock moved closer to its 200-day moving average of $27.61.

Ecolab (ECL) hit a new 52-week high today, reaching $65.34 to top the previous high of $64.50.
