Utilities Sector Wrap

The S&P 500 lost 0.3% while the Utilities sector (XLU) showed little movement during trading today.

Cadiz (CDZI) was a major gainer in the sector, rising 7% (+59 cents) to close at $9.03 with 113,814 shares moving. The stock traded in a range of $8.52 to $9.09. The stock has fallen over the last three months, dropping $1.67 (-15.6%) from $10.70 on February 3, 2012.

Chesapeake Midstream Partners L.P (CHKM) was one of the sector's big losers, as its price dropped 3.7% (-$1.07) to close at $27.78. 598,096 shares of the stock moved. The stock traded between $27.56 and $28.68. The share price has been sliding in the last month, down $1.83 (-6.2%) from $29.61 on April 2, 2012.

Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEP) rose 3.4% to close at $9.85, cross its 50-day moving average of $9.83 and 200-day moving average of $10.60. National Fuel Gas (NFG) declined 3.1% to close at $46.12, moving below its 50-day moving average of $47.14 and 200-day moving average of $51.61.

El Paso Pipeline Partners L.P (EPB) rose 0.8% to close at $33.77, approaching its 50-day moving average of $34.34. It has also moved closer to its 200-day moving average of $34.78. Energy Transfer Equity L.P (ETE) fell 3.1% to close at $41.44, moving closer to its 50-day moving average of $40.85. Also, the stock moved closer to its 200-day moving average of $40.24.

El Paso Electric Company (EE) hit a new 52-week low today, hitting $29.17 to fall below the previous low of $29.29.
