Chesapeake Energy Corporation (CHK) was a significant gainer in the sector, rising 6.3%. The stock closed at $19.60 with 75.5 million shares moving. The stock traded in a range of $19.47 to $20.63. The stock has been on a downward trajectory over the last two months, sinking $4.73 (-19.4%) from a price of $24.33 on March 2, 2012.
Talisman Energy (TLM) fell 2.8% to close at $12.70, crossing its 50-day moving average of $12.93. Meanwhile, Marathon Oil Corporation (MRO) climbed 2.9% to close at $30.19, moving past its 200-day moving average of $29.99.
Hess (HES) rose 3.6% to close at $54.03, approaching its 50-day moving average of $57.42. It has also moved closer to its 200-day moving average of $59.06. Penn Virginia Resource Partners L P (KMR) fell 2.4% to close at $24.88, moving closer to its 50-day moving average of $24.74. Also, the stock moved closer to its 200-day moving average of $73.66.
Ecopetrol (EC) hit a new 52-week high today, reaching $67.92 to top the previous high of $65.55.
