Utilities Sector Wrap

The Utilities sector (XLU) held steady during a trading day that saw the S&P 500 grow 0.7%.

While being down today, the ETF, as a proxy for sector performance, tracked closer to the overall market today than over the past month. Entering today's trading, XLU was up 1.4% over the last thirty trading days while the S&P 500 was down 0.7%.

EDENOR (EDN) was a major loser in the sector, falling 10.7% (-27 cents) to close at $2.24 with 33,582 shares moving. The stock traded in a range of $2.03 to $2.50.

Cheniere Energy Partners L.P (CQP) was a major gainer in the sector, rising 4.6% (+$1.20) to close at $27.14 with 757,642 shares moving. The stock traded in a range of $26.04 to $27.47. Share price increased over the last three months, now up $5.71 (26.6%) from $21.43 on January 30, 2012.

Exelon Corporation (EXC) rose 1.1% to close at $38.59, cross its 50-day moving average of $38.48 and 200-day moving average of $40.60. Laclede Group (LG) declined 0.5% to close at $39.49, moving below its 50-day moving average of $39.47 and 200-day moving average of $40.03.

Chesapeake Midstream Partners L.P (CHKM) rose 3.3% to close at $27.88, approaching its 50-day moving average of $29.06. It has also moved closer to its 200-day moving average of $28.29. Empresa Nacional de Electricidad (OKS) fell 1% to close at $54.27, moving closer to its 50-day moving average of $54.12. Also, the stock moved closer to its 200-day moving average of $53.87.
