The Transportation sector (IYT) showed little movement while the S&P 500 gained 0.7% during trading today.

The ETF, as a proxy for the sector, tracked farther from the overall market today than over the past week. As trading began today, IYT was up 0.2% over the last seven trading days while the S&P 500 climbed 1.8%.

Pacer International (PACR) was a major loser in the sector. Its price dropped 10.5% (-72 cents) to close at $6.12, as 777,986 shares moved. The stock traded between $6 and $6.80. The stock has seen some negative movement recently as shares are down 73 cents (-10.7%) from a price of $6.85 on April 19, 2012.

Increasing 7.5% (+47 cents) to close at $6.74, Frontline (FRO) was a major gainer in the sector. Today, two million shares traded hands. The stock traded in a range of $6.37 to $6.78. Share price is up 28 cents (4%) from $7.02 on March 27, 2012.

Kirby Corporation (KEX) rose 4% to close at $66.33, cross its 50-day moving average of $65.71 and 200-day moving average of $64.32.

China Southern Airlines (ZNH) rose 3.7% to close at $22.04, approaching its 50-day moving average of $22.91. It has also moved closer to its 200-day moving average of $25.55. Con Way (RAIL) fell 1.8% to close at $32.55, moving closer to its 50-day moving average of $32.53. Also, the stock moved closer to its 200-day moving average of $21.95.

StealthGas (GASS) hit a new 52-week high today, reaching $6.48 to top the previous high of $6.45.

SkyWest (SKYW) hit a new 52-week low today, hitting $8.71 to fall below the previous low of $9.45.
