Utilities Sector Wrap

The Utilities sector (XLU) held steady during a trading day that saw the S&P 500 grow 0.8%.

The ETF has moved up across its 200-day moving average of $34.29 today.

Clean Energy Fuels (NASDAQ:CLNE) was a major gainer in the sector, rising 5.2% (+98 cents) to close at $19.68 with 2.5 million shares moving. The stock traded in a range of $19.07 to $19.85.

Cheniere Energy (AMEX:LNG) rose 2.9% to close at $15.41, cross its 50-day moving average of $15.27 and 200-day moving average of $11.50.

Exterran Partners L.P (NASDAQ:EXLP) rose 1.9% to close at $22, approaching its 50-day moving average of $22.98. It has also moved closer to its 200-day moving average of $22.62. Edison International (NYSE:EIX) fell 0.7% to close at $41.66, moving down to 2.8% above its 200-day moving average of $40.49.

National Fuel Gas (NYSE:NFG) was a major loser in the sector. Its price dropped 1.7% (-75 cents) to close at $44.27, as 886,057 shares moved. The stock traded between $44.24 and $45.61. The share price has dropped $6.39 (-12.6%) from $50.66 on March 12, 2012.

Companhia Energetica Minas Gerais (NYSE:CIG) hit a new 52-week high today, reaching $25.59 to top the previous high of $25.20.
