During trading today, the Consumer/Non-Cyclical sector (XLP) showed little change while the S&P 500 fell 1.7%.
The ETF has moved down across its 50-day moving average of $33.56 today. The ETF, as a proxy for the sector, tracked closer to the overall market today than over the past week. Going into trading today, XLP was down 2.6% over the last seven trading days while the S&P 500 went up -4.2%.
Golden Enterprises, Inc. (GLDC) was a major gainer in the sector, rising 5.8% (+20 cents) to close at $3.65 with 17,760 shares moving. The stock traded in a range of $3.37 to $3.65.
Owens Corning (OC) was a major loser in the sector, falling 4.8% (-$1.66) to close at $32.70 with 2.6 million shares moving. The stock traded in a range of $32.61 to $34.55. Shares are down, having dropped $2.34 (-6.7%) from a price of $35.04 on April 2, 2012.
The Estee Lauder Companies Inc. (EL) declined 2.2% to close at $60.79, moving below its 50-day moving average of $60.68 and 200-day moving average of $62.91. Compania Cervecerias Unidas S.A. (ADR) (CCU) rose 0.4% to close at $72.82, crossing its 50-day moving average of $72.59.
American Lorain Corporation (ALN) rose 4.2% to close at $1.25, approaching its 50-day moving average of $1.38. It has also moved closer to its 200-day moving average of $1.44. Tupperware Brands Corporation (TUP) fell 3.3% to close at $60.99, moving down to 2.1% above its 200-day moving average of $59.68.
