Sales of new U.S. single-family homes rose more than expected in September, while prices rose and the supply of homes on the market was the lowest in 42 years, a government report showed on Wednesday.
The Commerce Department said sales rose 6.6% to a 307,000-unit annual rate from an unrevised 288,000-unit pace in August.
Analysts polled by Reuters had forecast new home sales rising to a 300,000-unit pace last month. Sales were down 21.5% compared to September last year.
