BEIJING -(Dow Jones)- Wireless chip maker Qualcomm Inc. (QCOM) has no plans to lay off any staff following its acquisition of Atheros Communications Inc. (ATHR), Chief Executive Paul Jacobs said Tuesday.
Instead, the San Diego, Calif.-based company will add staff in Atheros's business area in the next few years, said the executive, without providing specific figures.
Qualcomm was already expanding in the business area covered by Atheros before it announced the acquisition, Jacobs told Dow Jones Newswires on the sidelines of an industry event in Beijing.
Earlier this month, Qualcomm said it agreed to buy Atheros in a $3.1 billion deal that analysts say could boost the company's position in the increasingly competitive mobility chip market.
