Jared Lee Loughner, 22, has been accused of shooting and killing six people and injuring more than a dozen others at a “Congress on Your Corner” event in Tucson, where he had allegedly attempted to assassinate U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords.

The 40-year old Democrat remains in a medically-induced coma after suffering from a gun shot wound to the head, and doctors have so far expressed optimism regarding her recovery, according to media reports.

Of the six murdered were federal judge John Roll, Gabriel Zimmerman, a 30-year old a member of Giffords’ staff, and a nine-year old girl, the granddaughter of former Phillies, Mets and Yankees manager Dallas Green.

Loughner was tackled to the ground by bystanders after his gun jammed and has been charged with five criminal counts, including attempted assassination of a member of Congress. He is set to appear in court on Monday and further charges are expected.
