WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The Pentagon will soonnotify Congress of a potential arms sale to Saudi Arabia worthup to $60 billion, but only expects the kingdom to commit toabout $30 billion initially, a senior U.S. defense officialsaid Monday.
The arms sale includes 84 new Boeing Co F-15 fighter jets,upgrading another 70 of them as well as buying 72 Black Hawkhelicopters built by Sikorsky Aircraft, a unit of UnitedTechnologies Corp.
The United States and Saudi Arabia were also discussing apackage for the kingdom's navy, potentially worth $30 billion,but the timing of that deal was unclear and would not beincluded in the upcoming congressional notification, theofficial said.
