Stock futures were pointing to a lower open as traders return from a long weekend and following drops in Asian and European equities markets.
Here are some of the early market-movers for Tuesday.
Shares were up 7.4% in pre-market trading following the appointment of former Hewlett-Packard CEO Mark Hurd as co-president and member of the board.
ResCare Inc (NASDAQ:RSCR)
The home education company announced it would be acquired by Canadian private-equity firm Onex Corp in a in a $390 million cash deal sending shares up 6.3% in pre-market trading.
Idenix Pharmaceuticals Inc (NASDAQ:IDIX)
Shares fell 45% in pre-market trading after the company announced it had been notified verbally by the FDA that two of its Hepatitis C treatments have been put on hold due to safety concerns.
China Sky One Medical (NASDAQ:CSKI)
Shares of the herbal based pharmaceutical company fell 30% in pre-market trading Tuesday after lowering its earnings guidance citing the termination of several distributor relationships and the resignation of its CFO for health related reasons.
Pike Electric Corp (NYSE:PIKE)
The energy solutions company posted fourth-quarter results reporting a loss of 12 cents per share on revenue of $120.7 million. Analysts had been expecting the company to break even with revenue of $131.89 million. Shares were down 16.6% in pre-market trading on the miss.
Barclays PLC (NYSE:BCS)
Shares of the investment bank slipped 5.6% in pre-market trading after announcing Robert Diamond will become the new CEO starting next year succeeding John Varley who announced he was stepping down.
