Staples (NASDAQ:SPLS) said Tuesday it plans to sell Amazon’s (NASDAQ:AMZN) Kindle, an electronic reader, for the next two years.
The retailer, which will start selling the popular product in more than 1,550 stores this fall, will be the only office superstore to carry the wireless reading device.
“As part of our efforts to offer customers a wide range of top technology products and services at amazing values, the new Kindle is a natural fit,” said Jevin Eagle, executive vice president of merchandising and marketing at Staples.
Kindle, a reading device that wirelessly downloads books, magazines, newspapers, blogs and personal documents, is Amazon’s best-selling product. The Kindle store has more than 670,000 books, including new releases and best sellers, a majority of which cost less than $10.
The seller of office and school supplies will host interactive displays in its retail stores, enabling customers to experience the recently launched new generation Kindle.
The newest Kindle has an electronic-ink screen with 50% higher contrast and boasts 20% faster page turns. The device is 21% smaller and 15% lighter than its predecessor.
Staple’s will offer the Kindle for $139, the Kindle 3G for $189, and the Kindle DX for $379, as well as a wide-assortment of Kindle accessories.
