A shareholder in the $7.7 billion McAfee (NYSE:MFE), Intel (NASDAQ:INTC) deal is suing the companies, alleging the price of the deal is “fundamentally unfair” to shareholders, according to Thomson Reuters data.
The McAfee shareholder is seeking class-action status on a lawsuit intended to halt the merger on its current terms at $48 a share, alleging the software maker’s worth is materially higher.
The deal, Intel’s largest-ever acquisition, reflects a 60% premium on McAfee’s closing price last Wednesday.
Chip making giant Intel said it is looking to bolster the appeal of its chips from the deal, as it tries to expand from PCs into web-connected gadgets.
Shares of Intel fell on the news, closing down about 1.58% to $18.41, while McAfee closed down six cents to $47.04.
