Kitchenware and home furnishings retailer Williams-Sonoma Inc. reported late Wednesday its fiscal second-quarter profit rose 4.9% to $50.7 million, or 53 cents a share, from $48.9 million, or 49 cents a share, a year ago. Revenue for the quarter ended Aug. 3 rose 5.8% to $1.04 billion from $982.2 million. Analysts surveyed by FactSet had forecast the company would earn 53 cents a share on $1.05 billion in sales. The company said it expects to earn between 58 cents and 63 cents a share in the third quarter, below the 66 cents a share analysts had been looking for. Williams-Sonoma shares fell as much as 11% to $66.28 in after-hours trade.
