Google Inc. and Barnes & Noble Inc. are teaming up to take on rival Amazon Inc. in the speedy delivery of books, the New York Times reported Thursday.

Book buyers in Manhattan, West Los Angeles and the San Francicso Bay Area will be able to get same-day book deliveries from Barnes & Noble through Google's new online delivery service, the paper reported.

Google Shopping Express was launched about a year ago and allows shoppers to receive products from stores including CostCo, Walgreens and Staples within hours.
